AFGHAN’S TO TRAIN IN CALIFORNIA’S SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY

(FRESNO, CALIF.) — On Saturday, October 24, 2009, four members of the Afghanistan Public Safety team will make their way to the United States of America to learn our practices and procedures in law enforcement and public safety. The Afghan officers, will arrive at LAX and then drive to Fresno, California where the Fresno Fire Department will host them during their training period.

The four Afghan public safety officers will train with local police and fire departments and in partnership with a Canadian fire agency, Langford Fire & Rescue. Training exercises will be performed to teach the Afghan officers American techniques in public safety to aid in the overall peace process in Afghanistan. “By helping train the Afghan safety officers, we are hoping to reduce the number of American casualties and give them the tools they need to take back to their country and train their officer’s accurately,” says Mike Harris, Founder of Brotherhood of the Badge International.

Brotherhood of the Badge International (BOTB) collects surplus police and fire equipment (such as ballistic vests and helmets) from police departments around the country and delivers it to US military authorities in Iraq and Afghanistan. This non-profit agency provides vital personal protection equipment to the civilian police personnel. BOTB has a singular goal of assisting peace officers worldwide with equipment and the necessary tools required to be self sufficient and less dependant on American soldiers. By being less dependant on American soldiers, BOTB hopes that its efforts will reduce the loss of American lives oversees.
